While working on our BluScenes discs, I would often take samples home to test out on a variety of different televisions. I found it extremely difficult to find a TV that reflected what I saw on the reference monitors used during editing. Each TV has different characteristics, and they all display content differently. You can reduce this difference by calibrating your TV. While a TV is still limited by various architectural issues and it's own capabilities, you can still bring any TV closer to an ideal image.
There are a number of ways to do this. You can pay for a professional calibration through an ISF-certified and trained expert for the best results, or you can do it yourself by using a calibration program. I like Spears & Munsil because of its ease of use and its "taking fire to the cavemen" approach. You will understand how to get a better image from your TV. I've used other calibration programs that I've given up on due to poor documentation or just a sense of being overwhelmed with data. Not so with this disc. They didn't just pile on tons of information (perhaps valuable to some) for the sake of justifying a higher SRP.

So, anyway, I'm very pleased to be able to offer this extremely accurate and easy-to-use calibration solution to our customers and we're including a complimentary copy of our BluScenes: Coral Reef Aquarium Disc for a limited time. It sells on its own for $14.95 (although it's currently on sale for $11.95 on our site!).
We stand by this product in the same way that we stand by our own discs. We guarantee your complete satisfaction or we'll take it back and refund the entire purchase price.
About Spears & Munsil High Definition Benchmark Blu-ray
Stacey Spears and Don Munsil, who created the highly-regarded DVD Player Benchmark™ and Progressive Scan Shootout at Secrets of Home Theater and High Fidelity®, have applied all their technical wizardry to this Blu-ray test and evaluation disc. "The test patterns on this disc represent the current state-of-the-art. They are cleaner and more accurate than the test patterns found on previous discs. There are a lot of subtle details that go into making them as mathematically perfect as possible, especially to ensure that they retain all their precision after lossy encoding. We have built proprietary tools to generate patterns and a custom encoder that preserves much more detail. Even ordinary patterns like color bars have unique traits that make them cleaner."
